A brief introduction to Tokyo

The heartbeat of Japan, Tokyo is a vibrant, otherworldly destination that boasts a futuristic culture that is uniquely Japanese.

Tokyo’s neighbourhoods are prime for exploring - each different from the previous one. Neighbourhoods like the vibrant Harajuku and Shinjuku appear like a vision from the future with their eccentric fashion trends and bright cartoon-like billboards. Other neighbourhoods – like the tranquil Yanesen area – boast ancient temples and hold on to their sense of traditional Japanese history.

Regardless of where you are in the city, Tokyo’s consistency surrounding its cuisine means you’re never far from a superb dining experience. Whether it be waterside sushi in Odaiba, a plate of buckwheat noodles (soba) in Chiyoda City, or a hot bowl of ramen in Shibuya, Tokyo offers travellers a world of flavours.

If you wish to learn more about Tokyo’s history, be sure to visit one of the many ancient, ruby-hued temples scattered throughout the city - some of the more popular being Senso-ji and Meiji Jingu. The views from the 634m tall Tokyo Skytree is also well worth a visit. After you leave the tower, you can relax in one of the city’s many nearby gardens such as Ueno Onshi Park and Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.
