Upon your arrival in Tokyo

Situated 18km south of Japan’s capital city, Haneda Airport is the closest of Tokyo’s two airports. Taxis can be found outside the airport terminal and will get you to the city centre in around 15 minutes. Local buses take 20 minutes, and the Keikyū Airport Line train takes approximately 40 minutes.

Narita Airport is located 70km northeast of the Tokyo city centre, which is best reached by train. The Keisei Narita Skyaccess train takes around an hour to get to Nihombashi station in the central Chuo City district.

A brief introduction to Tokyo

The world’s largest city, Tokyo is an unforgettable travel destination that perfectly blends futuristic attractions and culture with ancient Japanese heritage.

Begin your trip with a visit to one of Tokyo’s many vibrant and exciting neighbourhoods such as Akihabara, Harajuku and Shinjuku. These districts are all centrally-located, boast futuristic billboards and gaming arcades, and are the perfect place to get a taste of Tokyo’s uniquely colourful culture and fashion. In the north of the city, you’ll find Yanesen, where you can explore Tokyo’s ancient temples and shrines, such as Nezu Shrine, Meiji Jingu and 1,300-year-old Senso-ji.

No matter where you are in Tokyo, you’ll never be too far from a delicious dining experience. Be sure to try the many variations of ramen the city has to offer - two local favourites being shoyu (soy sauce) ramen and miso (fermented soybean paste) ramen.

Japan’s famous ‘shinkansen’ (bullet train) is one of the fastest in the world, meaning you are an easy day trip away from attractions outside of the city. We recommend journeying to one of several ‘onsens’ (hot springs) that overlook Mount Fuji – Lake Kawaguchiko Onsen and Hakone Onsen are two of the most popular.
