A brief introduction to Tokyo

The largest city in the world, Tokyo is a buzzing metropolis that boasts neon-fuelled futurism mixed with a fascinating ancient heritage – all of which is topped off by a world class dining scene.

No matter where you start your trip to Tokyo, there’ll be something worth seeing. Some highlights include the sophisticated architecture of Aoyama, the extraordinary fashions of Shinjuku, or the modern, high octane streets of Akihabara. To get a bird’s eye view of Tokyo’s 23 wards, we recommend visiting the top towering Tokyo Skytree, which overlooks the city from a height of 634 metres.

To experience Tokyo’s storied heritage and culture, be sure to visit some of the city’s historical sights. Some of the most popular include Meiji Jingu, Nezu Shrine, the Imperial Palace, and Senso-ji – the oldest temple in the city.

Tokyo is also a paradise for food lovers and features the largest number of Michelin Star restaurants in the world. Be sure to try some of the city’s most iconic dishes such as ‘ikayaki’ (grilled squid), ‘yakitori’ (grilled chicken skewers), and ‘okonomiyaki’ (savoury pancake).
